Bathroom Vanity Compliance for Europe: What Importers Should Check Before Ordering
Importing bathroom vanities into Europe is not a single “certificate check.” The obligations can change with the cabinet material, whether an LED mirror or other electrical equipment is included, the destination market, the importer’s role and the way packaging is placed on the market.
This guide is for buyers preparing an EU bathroom-vanity order before sampling or bulk production. It separates product and supply-chain checks so that material, electrical, packaging and documentation decisions can be made before the order is locked.
Quick Answer
A non-electrical bathroom vanity cabinet is not normally CE-marked simply because it is furniture. The compliance review should instead focus on the finished configuration: REACH and formaldehyde for relevant furniture and wood-based articles, EUDR scope for wood-derived products, and packaging and import documentation.
Where an LED mirror, illuminated cabinet, socket or another electrical component is supplied, assess that electrical product separately. CE-related obligations may apply to the electrical configuration; the Low Voltage Directive may apply depending on rated voltage and product design. The importer remains responsible for confirming the applicable route in the destination market.
European Bathroom Vanity Compliance at a Glance
Start by mapping the order to its components. This avoids applying an electrical rule to a cabinet, or treating a voluntary material preference as an EU-wide legal requirement.
| Product area | Key compliance focus | Buyer should confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Non-electrical vanity cabinet | Material specification, finish, moisture-use suitability, labels and import records. | Whether any national, retailer or project requirement is added to the EU baseline. |
| Wood-based cabinet | REACH substance restrictions and formaldehyde release; EUDR scope may depend on product and CN/HS classification. | Panel, adhesive and coating data; applicable test conditions; wood origin and traceability evidence. |
| LED mirror | Electrical-product assessment, including CE-related requirements where applicable. | Rated voltage, driver, plug, wiring, IP needs, technical file and declarations. |
| Electrical components | LVD, EMC, RoHS and WEEE may be relevant according to the final design and market role. | Which legislation applies, who is the responsible economic operator, and registration/marking needs. |
| Packaging | Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), national producer-responsibility and retailer requirements. | Packaging material, marking, recyclability information and country-specific EPR arrangements. |
| FSC, M1 and VOC evidence | Commercial, retailer or project specifications rather than automatic EU-wide requirements for every vanity. | Whether the destination customer requires a particular certificate, test method or declaration. |
Who Is Responsible for What?
LAMOO is not a European legal adviser or testing agency. A practical pre-order review separates configuration support from the importer’s market-entry responsibilities.
| Review item | LAMOO can support | Importer should confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Product configuration | Confirm cabinet, basin, mirror, size, finish and packing specification with the order. | Destination-market fit, retailer rules and final product classification. |
| Materials | Provide available material and finish information for the agreed specification. | Applicable REACH/formaldehyde scope, required evidence and any voluntary project standard. |
| LED mirror configuration | Confirm the agreed voltage, plug, switch, driver position, cable position and mirror size. | Applicable CE route, declarations, testing, labels, WEEE role and registrations. |
| Packaging and documents | Prepare agreed carton marks, packing information and order documents. | Importer identity, language, EPR obligations, customs documentation and final legal wording. |
1. REACH and Formaldehyde Requirements for Bathroom Vanities
For furniture and wood-based articles placed on the EU market, the relevant review is not a generic “low formaldehyde” statement. REACH Annex XVII Entry 77 applies to relevant articles placed on the market from 6 August 2026. Under the regulation’s specified test conditions, furniture and wood-based articles must not exceed a formaldehyde release concentration of 0.062 mg/m³; the regulation also defines scope, test conditions and exemptions.
For a bathroom vanity order, review the complete finished article and the material stack: panel type, adhesive system, coating, edge treatment and any supplier or laboratory evidence requested by the importer. Do not substitute an E1 reference, an FSC chain-of-custody claim, M1 documentation or a generic VOC statement for the applicable REACH assessment. Those may be useful where a customer or project requests them, but they are different checks.
2. EUDR Checks for Wood-Based Bathroom Vanities
Wood can bring an EUDR question into the order, but EUDR applicability is not decided by a product label alone. It depends on the product, the wood-derived item and its CN/HS classification. The European Commission’s EUDR guidance states that the rules apply from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators, and from 30 June 2027 for micro and small operators, subject to the listed exceptions.
Before purchase, confirm the wood source, supplier traceability records and the importer’s own due-diligence responsibility. This page is not a classification opinion: the importer should determine whether the particular vanity, its wood components and the transaction fall within EUDR scope before placing the product on the EU market.
3. LED Mirror Compliance: CE, LVD, EMC, RoHS and WEEE
An LED mirror must be assessed as an electrical product when it is part of the supplied order. The review begins with the final configuration: rated voltage, driver, plug, cable exit, control method, sensor or socket, installation zone and instructions. CE marking is not a blanket label for the cabinet itself; it concerns product legislation that applies to the electrical product.
| Check | Buyer should confirm |
|---|---|
| CE assessment | Which EU legislation applies to the final LED mirror and who holds the required technical documentation. |
| LVD | It may apply depending on rated voltage and product design; confirm the final electrical safety route. |
| EMC and RoHS | Whether the electronic design is within scope and which evidence is required for the marketed configuration. |
| WEEE | Producer/importer registration, marking and financing obligations in the destination Member State. |
For product planning, see this bathroom vanity set with LED mirror as a configuration example. It does not determine the compliance status of another model or market.
4. Packaging Requirements for Bathroom Vanities Sold in Europe
Packaging needs both a protection review and a market-compliance review. Cabinets, basins and mirrors need appropriate transport protection, while the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (EU) 2025/40 generally applies from 12 August 2026. Its operational requirements are phased, so buyers should not assume that every marking or recyclability obligation has the same effective date.
Before bulk production, confirm the carton and protective materials, item and carton marks, recyclability information where applicable, and the producer-responsibility arrangements in every destination country. Retail and project deliveries may add their own packaging rules. Packaging decisions should also preserve access to spare parts and maintenance and replacement support.

5. Labels and Import Documentation
Agree the required label and document pack before production: model and configuration identification, product dimensions, electrical rating and safety information where relevant, instructions, importer details, carton marks, packing list, commercial invoice and any buyer-required declarations or test records. The exact language and format are market- and product-specific.
For Great Britain, do not treat UKCA as the only possible route. Current government guidance recognises CE for several relevant product areas in Great Britain, while Northern Ireland follows a different regime. Check the applicable sector and market route with the importer using the UK government’s product-marking guidance.
Commercial choices still matter, but they should not obscure compliance. Use the manufacturing review to confirm the complete bathroom vanity specification, then separate that work from evaluating a bathroom vanity supplier and from the importer’s legal assessment.
6. Final Pre-Order Compliance Checklist
- Confirm the destination country, sales channel, importer of record and final order configuration.
- List every cabinet material, coating, basin, hardware item, mirror and electrical component.
- Check the REACH/formaldehyde route for relevant furniture and wood-based articles, including required evidence.
- Determine whether EUDR applies to the specific wood-based product and classification; retain the necessary traceability records.
- For LED mirrors, confirm the final electrical design and the CE/LVD/EMC/RoHS/WEEE assessment route.
- Agree labels, instructions, importer data, carton marks, packing protection and market-specific packaging responsibility.
- Keep the approved product specification, document list and sample changes aligned before authorising bulk production.
7. Which Components May Fall Into Scope
EUDR applies to specific wood-derived items rather than automatically to a finished cabinet. Depending on the design, specification and packing method, EU buyers may need to review:
- vanity cabinet boards;
- plywood or engineered wood components;
- MDF or particle board structures;
- decorative veneers and wood-look panels;
- mirror cabinet bodies and side cabinets;
- wooden shelves or accessories.
Scope depends on the product composition, the HS/CN code, whether wood-based materials are included, whether the product is placed on the EU market, and the buyer's own role in the supply chain as importer, distributor or downstream customer. That is why “is this vanity EUDR-free?” is not a useful question to send a factory. It is more practical to ask for the material composition component by component, and for the importer to run due diligence on the transaction.
8. Questions to Ask Any Supplier
These questions work with any supplier, not only LAMOO, and most of them can be asked before a quotation is finalised:
- Which wood-based materials are used in the cabinet, and in which components?
- Are alternative panel options available for the same design?
- Can material information be prepared per project or per batch?
- Can supporting documents be discussed before production rather than after shipping?
- Can the supplier work to buyer-provided material requirements?
- Can product performance documents and sourcing documents be handled as two separate tracks?
Keeping performance and sourcing separate matters. A vanity can perform well in a bathroom and still raise a documentation question, and the reverse is also true; treating the two as one item usually makes the tender harder to close.
9. How LAMOO Prepares Material and Batch Information
For EU inquiries, LAMOO works with FSC-prioritised board sourcing for particleboard, MDF and plywood, and keeps material and production information per batch. In practice that means:
- Incoming boards: random checks on board batches for formaldehyde and VOC emissions, and low-VOC glue and coating systems where the specification allows them.
- In production: checks at cutting and CNC machining (dimensions and hole accuracy), edge banding and drilling (edge strength and sealed cut surfaces), pre-assembly (stability, gaps and alignment) and final inspection (appearance, drawer and hinge function, basic odour check).
- Batch records: board batch and supplier, production date and line, and the destination market or project reference where applicable.
This is what makes it possible to answer a material question for a specific order rather than in general terms, and to keep the answer consistent from the first quotation through to the shipping documents. Collections most often used in projects with material requirements include the Cloud Ripples W-U01 wall-hung series and the Carrara stone sets BH03-C-2000 and BK13-3200 with their matching LED mirrors. Material statements and the test reports that are available are discussed with the project team during specification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a bathroom vanity cabinet need CE marking in the EU?
Not normally just because it is a non-electrical cabinet. Review the cabinet as furniture and assess material, formaldehyde, labels, packaging and import requirements. If the supplied configuration includes an LED mirror or other electrical product, assess that electrical item separately.
What formaldehyde requirement applies to bathroom furniture from August 2026?
For furniture and wood-based articles within the scope of REACH Annex XVII Entry 77, the formaldehyde release concentration must not exceed 0.062 mg/m³ under the regulation’s specified test conditions when placed on the market from 6 August 2026. Check the regulation’s scope, conditions and exemptions for the actual product.
Does an LED bathroom mirror require CE compliance checks?
It may. The required assessment depends on the final electrical design, rated voltage, functions and destination market. Confirm the applicable CE route and whether LVD, EMC, RoHS and WEEE obligations apply; LVD may apply depending on rated voltage and product design.
Does EUDR apply to wooden bathroom vanities?
It can, but this depends on the specific product and its CN/HS classification. The importer should confirm product scope, wood-source traceability and its own due-diligence obligations before placing the product on the EU market.
What documents should an EU importer request before bulk production?
Start with the agreed specification, material and finish information, labels, instructions, packing details and the evidence needed for the product’s applicable legal route. For an LED mirror, this may include electrical technical documentation and declarations; for wood-based goods, obtain the records needed for the importer’s REACH and EUDR assessment.
